How to Save Instagram Audio on iPhone as an MP3
Regularly updated · Trusted by thousands of users
iPhone has no built-in way to pull audio out of an Instagram Reel. Instagram's own "Save audio" button only bookmarks the sound inside the app so you can reuse it in your own Reels. It doesn't give you a file. If you want an actual MP3 you can play, edit or keep, you need to do it through the browser, and it takes about a minute.
Save the audio in four steps
- In Instagram, open the Reel and tap the share icon (the paper plane), then tap Copy link.
- Open Safari and go to the Instagram Audio Downloader.
- Paste the link into the box and tap Download.
- Safari may ask whether to download the file. Tap Download. A small arrow appears next to the address bar, and the MP3 shows up there once it finishes.
Menu wording changes a little between iOS versions, but the flow stays the same: copy the link, paste it, download.
Where the MP3 goes
Safari saves downloads to the Files app. Open Files and look in the Downloads folder, either under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone. You can change the location in Settings → Safari → Downloads. From there, tap the file to play it, or use the share sheet to send it to another app.
Using the audio on your iPhone
Most video editors can open the file from Files: look for an import option that reads from Files, then pick the MP3. Music and voice-note apps can also open it from the share sheet. iPhone ringtones are a separate process. They have to be a short clip in a ringtone format, and the usual route goes through GarageBand, which is outside what this tool does.
If it doesn't work
- Open the link in Safari, not inside Instagram. Instagram's in-app browser often can't save files.
- Copy the link from the Share menu. A link typed by hand or cut off from a screenshot may be incomplete.
- Private accounts won't work. The Reel has to be public.
- The Reel may have been removed. Open the link in a browser first to check that it still plays.
- Try again in a minute. Instagram occasionally blocks requests for a short time, and a second attempt usually goes through.
A note on rights
The audio in a Reel can be the creator's own voice, a licensed song, or both. Saving it for your own listening is one thing. Posting it again, or using it in something you publish or sell, is a different one, and it usually needs the owner's permission. If the sound is licensed music, treat the file as personal use only.
Questions
Do I need to install an app to save Instagram audio on iPhone?
No. It runs in Safari, so there is nothing to install from the App Store.
Where is the MP3 saved on my iPhone?
In the Files app, in the Downloads folder, unless you changed the download location in Settings → Safari → Downloads.
Does it work on private accounts?
No. Only public Reels can be saved.
Can I use the audio in my own video?
For editing on your own device, yes. For publishing or selling it, check the rights first, because the sound may be licensed music.
