How to Extract Audio from an Instagram Video or Reel

Sometimes you only want the sound from an Instagram video: a voiceover, a song clip, a sound effect, an interview. Instagram has no button that gives you that as a file. Its "Save audio" option only bookmarks the sound inside the app. To get an actual MP3, you need a tool that reads the public video and returns just the audio track.

Quick summary: Copy the video's link, paste it into the Instagram Audio Downloader, and click Download. You get an MP3 of the audio. No login, no app.

Extract the audio in four steps

  1. In Instagram, open the video or Reel, tap the share icon (the paper plane), and tap Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
  2. Open the Instagram Audio Downloader.
  3. Paste the link into the box and click Download.
  4. Wait a few seconds, then save the MP3 when the download starts.

Videos, Reels and regular posts

It works the same for Reels, for videos posted to the feed, and for videos inside carousel posts, as long as the account is public. The link can look like instagram.com/reel/... or instagram.com/p/.... Either one is fine.

What you will hear in the MP3

You get the full audio track of the video, exactly as it plays. If the Reel uses a song with a voiceover on top, both are in the same file, because Instagram mixes them. Splitting the voice from the music takes a separate audio editor, and results vary.

On iPhone and on a computer

On a computer the MP3 lands in your Downloads folder. On iPhone it goes to the Files app through Safari. There is a separate walkthrough for that: how to save Instagram audio on iPhone.

If it doesn't work

  • Check that the account is public. Private videos cannot be read.
  • Open the link in a browser first. If the video is removed or needs a login, the tool cannot get it either.
  • Copy the link again from the Share menu. A cut-off link will fail.
  • Try again in a minute. Instagram sometimes blocks requests for a short time, and a second try usually works.

Using the audio you extract

The audio in a video may be someone's voice, licensed music, or both. Keeping it for your own listening or editing on your own device is one thing. Posting it again or using it in something you publish or sell usually needs permission from the rights holder.

Questions

Can I extract audio from a private Instagram video?

No. Only public videos and Reels can be processed. A private account's link cannot be read without logging in.

Do I need an app or an Instagram account?

No. It runs in your browser, and you do not have to log in to Instagram or install anything.

Can I do this on a computer?

Yes. The steps are the same in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on Windows, Mac or Linux. The MP3 downloads to your Downloads folder.

What is the audio quality?

The MP3 comes from the audio track Instagram serves with the video, so it sounds like the video does in the app. It cannot be better than the original upload.
