Instagram Profile Picture Downloader Guide

Instagram only ever shows you a small, circle-cropped thumbnail of a profile picture — there's no way to view or save the full-size image from inside the app. Here's how to get the original file instead.

How to save a profile picture

  1. Go to the profile whose picture you want to save and copy the profile URL from the address bar (or "Copy Profile URL" from the share menu).
  2. Paste it into the Profile Picture Downloader.
  3. Tap Download — the tool retrieves the full-resolution image, not the cropped thumbnail Instagram displays.

Why the in-app image looks so small

The profile picture shown at the top of a profile is a tiny, low-resolution circular crop meant only for the app's UI. Instagram stores a much larger square version behind it, which is what a dedicated profile picture downloader retrieves.

Does this work on private accounts?

No — like every InstaLoadr tool, it only reads what's already publicly visible. A private account's profile picture still shows an image publicly (Instagram doesn't hide that part), but nothing else about the private account is accessible.

Full quality, no crop

Since this pulls the original file rather than a screenshot of the small circular thumbnail, you get a proper full-resolution image — see our HD downloading guide for more on how that's preserved.
