Save an Instagram Reel Thumbnail
A Reel's thumbnail is its cover image, the picture people see on a profile grid before they press play. InstaLoadr reads a public Reel link and gives you that cover as a JPG, so you do not need to screenshot the video and crop it.
It is useful when you want to keep the cover of your own Reel, check which frame a creator chose, or save a cover for reference. It runs in the browser, so it works on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app and no Instagram login.
What you get

- The size Instagram provides for that Reel. We do not resize or upscale it.
- A custom cover if the creator uploaded one, or the chosen video frame if they did not.
What it cannot do
Only public Reels work. Private accounts, removed Reels and broken links return an error. This page saves the cover only. For the video use the Reel downloader, and for the sound use the audio downloader.
Why not just take a screenshot?
A screenshot of a Reel includes buttons, captions and your screen's own resolution. Downloading the cover file gives you the clean image without any of that.
Only use this on content you have the right to save. Covers belong to their creators.
How to Download an Instagram Reel Thumbnail
- Open the Reel in Instagram. Find the public Reel you want the cover image from.
- Copy the link. Tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar.
- Paste it above. Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Get thumbnail.
- Save the image. Check the preview, then press Download JPG to save the cover to your device.

Does this tool download the video too?
No. This page saves only the cover image. To save the video itself, use the Reel downloader.
What size is the saved image?
InstaLoadr saves the cover file exactly as Instagram serves it, so the size depends on the Reel. We do not resize or upscale it.
Can I get the thumbnail of a private account's Reel?
No. Only public Reels can be fetched. If the account is private or the Reel was removed, you will see an error.
Do I need to log in or install an app?
No. It works in your phone or computer browser, and you do not need an Instagram account.
Can I reuse someone else's cover image?
The cover belongs to the creator. Save it for personal reference or when you have permission, and do not repost it as your own.
Why did I get an error?
Check that the link opens a public Reel in your browser and that you copied the full link. If the Reel is public and it still fails, try again in a minute.
